An infected tooth will not heal on its own. Without treatment, the infection can spread to surrounding teeth, the jawbone, and in serious cases beyond the mouth. Leaving it untreated also means the tooth will eventually need to be extracted. A root canal is what allows us to save the tooth and stop the spread of infection.
